Rugby Union
Rugby Union is a classic invasion game and almost all of its tactics and strategy are aimed at creating opportunities for one team to penetrate the other team's territory - and the remainder at creating situations that prevent this penetration! It is axiomatic in Rugby that understanding your opponents' defence tactics is a crucial key to developing successful attacks.
Rugby is also a classic co-operation game. Of course, individual brilliance may produce a score but many, many more scores are made by the attacking team working together to create and then exploit scoring opportunities. Likewise, the most impregnable defences are all characterised by perfect co-ordination and co-operation.
One of the enduring qualities of Rugby, particularly apparent at school levels, is the opportunities it provides to children of all physical shapes and sizes to participate fully.
